Workshops 2011

Fusion Academy of Performing Arts is going to make you a star!

Fusion, Britain’s best-loved theatre academy, is coming back to Bangkok to run its acclaimed performing arts courses for children.

Top actors, directors, voice coaches and dancers will be sprinkling their stardust in a unique set of Fusion Workshops at The New International School of Bangkok in February 2011.

Open to children of all abilities between the ages of 4-18, participants will learn singing, dancing and drama skills as well as an array of backstage secrets from Fusion’s team of top professionals from the UK.

The workshops can help students boost their verbal skills and confidence and make them more self-reliant, articulate and healthy. But best of all, they are simply great fun!

The Junior Group will work with Zoe Harrison on songs from Disney productions including Enchanted, The Jungle Book and the Princess Frog. They will learn to sing, dance and act through this theme working towards the performance at the end of the workshop.

The Senior Group will work with songs from Billy Elliot and Chicago and learn dance routines using music from Lady Gaga, Flash Dance and Grease.

Founded by Ben Douglas, Fusion draws on unrivalled contacts in the performing arts world to provide a standard of training that is unique. Among the famous patrons of Fusion in the UK are Hollywood stars Ewan Macgregor and Thandie Newton, stage legend Lady Olivier and the classical musician Julian Lloyd Webber.

Ben says: “My dream is to offer all children – regardless of their background – the very best training around. And I’m proud to say that is what we do at Fusion. The Fusion Workshops at Harrow will give children from across Thailand and the region an amazing opportunity to learn from the stars in a fun and nurturing environment. Every child will be given the chance to shine!”

• Students should wear black leggings or any loose-fitting black trousers.
• Ideally, we would like our students to wear special split-sole dance or jazz dance shoes. These may be purchased in Bangkok at the Capezio shop in Phayathai Road (opposite MBK), tel 0-2658-4066. However, ordinary trainers may be worn.

WILL STUDENTS GET REGULAR BREAKS
Each day will be divided into sessions that are 45-60 minutes long (sessions for younger students will be shorter) with plenty of time to relax, ask questions and get refreshments. Students will be encouraged to drink plenty of water throughout the day and healthy snacks will provided in the morning and afternoon break time. Lunch is also provided.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS SHY?
Fusion Founder Ben Douglas has many years of experience of working with young people, and has a very special ability to engage with children and bring them “out of their shell”. In fact, Fusion Workshops are a great way for youngsters of all ages to boost their confidence and learn important life skills that they will be able to use in their normal academic studies. Ben will be on hand at all times to offer help and advice to students and their parents.

WHAT ARE THE SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS?
NIST prides itself on providing a safe and secure environment for every one. Students will be required to be signed in or signed out by their parents or registered caregiver. In the event of any doubt, adults will be asked to show some form of ID. All the teachers flying in from the UK have been thoroughly vetted and their backgrounds checked with the Criminal Records Bureau. No adult will ever be allowed to be in a room alone with a child.

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BRING?
Your child doesn’t really need to bring anything but energy, a good attitude and bags of enthusiasm. Students will not be allowed to use mobile phones or electronic devices of any kind during the workshops and it is probably better if such items are left at home. If students bring snacks from home, we request that they are nutritious and healthy. If you decide to allow your child to bring sweets, crisps, fizzy drinks etc we request that they do not share them with other pupils.
